Abarbanel (1437-1508)
Isaac Ben Jehudah Abarbanel (Abrabanel or Abarbenal) was a Jewish statesman and author. He was born in Lisbon of an ancient Jewish family and was famed during his lifetime for his learning and wealth. He was the Minister of State to King Alfonso V of Portugal, but under John II was suspected of treason and forced to flee Portugal.
He then served Ferdinand, King of Aragon until the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492. Thereafter he lived in Naples and Venice where he died.
