Abulfaraj (1226-1286)
Gregory Bar Hebraeus (a.k.a. Abulfaraj or Abulpharagius) was the last of the great Syriac writers. He was born in Malatia, Asia Minor. the son of a doctor of Jewish descent. In 1246 he was made Bishop of Gubos and elected as Mapharin of the East (the highest rank under the patriarch) of the Eastern Jacobites.
His books of most general interest are the EcclesiasticaL Chronicle and a history of the world in both Syriac and Arabian
