Aidan (7th century)
St. Aidan was an Irish monk at Iona who was consecrated as Bishop of Lindisfarne at the request of King Osward, King of Northumbria.
He founded a monastery there in 635 and went on to establish the Celtic church in Northumbria. He was a noted preacher and ascetic. After Osward's death in 642 King Oswin continued royal patronage of Aidan, Aidan died only a few days after Oswin's murder in 651..
St. Aidan's Feast day is celebrated on the 31st of August
