Al-Mokanna (d.780)
Al-Mokanna (or Al-Muqanna) was a Persian prophet, Hakim ben Allah (or Hashim ibn Hakim), who claimed to be an incarnation of God . After the murder of Abu Muslim he founded a Khurriyyah sect at Khorassan and led a revolt in Central Asia against the Caliphs, seizing some fortresses and generally raiding towns and mosques of other Muslims.
Considered a heretic by other Muslims, the Abbasid Caliphs sent several commanders to crush the rebellion. Finally cornered Al-Mokanna poisoned himself rather than be captured when his house was set on fire.
The title Al-Mokanna The veiled one is thought to be because he wore a veil to cover the fact that he had only one eye.
The sect that he founded proclaimed that Abu Muslim had been the true Mahdi and denied his death,and continued until the 12th century.
