Alexander III (1241-86) King of Scots
Alexander III, King of Scots, succeeded his father Alexander II in 1249. During his reign he successfully resisted all pressure to force him to do homage to the King of England for his Kingdom. His main achievment was , through the Treaty of Perth, to annex the Western Isles in 1266.
The later part of his reign was a period of stability in the often troubled realm of Scotland.
All of the children by his first wife, Margaret-daughter of Henry III of England, predeceased him, and he had no children by his second wife, Yolande, daughter of the Comte de Dreux. He was suceeded by his only grandchild, Margaret, the maid of Norway.
