Argyropoulos

John Argyropoulos (1418-1486) was a  Greek scholar born in Constantinople. In c.1435 he was appointed rector of Padua Univerity but returned to Constantinople in 1441. When the city fell to the Turks in 1453 he fled to Italy where, in 1456, he became the Professor of Greek in the University of Florence. He remained there until 1471 when he moved to Rome.  Politian and Reuchlin were amomg his pupils and during his lifetime he translated several works of Aristotle.
