Arthur
A legendary British military leader, who may be based on a historical character. According to the 9th century Nennius , Arthur commanded a combined British force against the Saxons, defeating them at Mount Badon in 518 A.D. , and was mortally wounded at Camlan in 537.
In the 10th century the legend of Arthur first appears in Welsh literature, and in the 12th century the chronicler Geoffrey of Monmouth contributed in his Historia regum Britanniae the tales of Arthur's court, the company of the Round Table and the search for the Holy Grail.
