Arthur of Brittany (1187-1204)
Arthur of Brittany was the son of Geoffrey (Son of Henry II) by Constance of Brittany, and nephew of King Richard I. When Richard went on Crusade in 1190, he named the four year old Arthur as heir-apparent , but subsequently recognized his own brother John as heir to the English throne..
After John's accession, Arthur, supported by King Philip II Augustus of France, claimed the English territories in France. In the ensuing conflict Arthur was captured and, allegedly, murdered by King John.
