Arundel (1353-1414)

    Thomas Arundel . was twice chancellor to Richard II (1386-89, 1391-96), who made him archbishop of Canterbury in 1396. In the following year he was impeached and banished, implicated with his brother (one of the Lords appellant), He returned to England in 1399 with the deposer Henry Bolingbroke, whom, following Richard's abdication, he crowned as Henry IV. Again appointed chancellor in 1407, he was overthrown by the Beauforts in 1410. He was an implacable opponent of the religious and constitutional  reformers known as the Lollards.
