Athelstan (c.895 - 939)
Athelstan was the Grandson of Alfred the Great and first king of all England. Crowned King of Wessex and Mercia in 925, he was acknowledged as King of all the English in the following year .
His reign was marked by successful raids against the Welsh in the west and southwest , the invasion of Scotland , and the defeat of an alliance between Danish forces and a combined force of Picts, Scots, Irish Norsemen and rebellious Britons( led by Olaf Guthfrithson, Norse King of Dublin; Constantine, King of Scots; and Owen, King of Strathclyde) at the Battle of Brunanburh in 937
