Cid
Roderigo Diaz de Bivar (c.1040-1099) (a.k.a. El Cid) Originally a soldier of fortune he established himself as a practically independant ruler at Valencia. His death whilst defending the city during as siege by the Moors would result in him becoming a Spanish National Hero.
