Clovis
Clovis (466-511) King of the Franks who united the Barbarian tribes to found the Merovingian Dynasty. Clovis succeeded his father, Childeric I, in 481. He converted to Catholicism at the instigation of his wife, and established Paris as his Capital.
Much of Clovis' reign was spent fighting neighbouring barabarians, in particularly the Burgundians (unsucessfully) and the Visigoths whom he managed to confine to Spain.
After his death the Frankish Empire was divided up between his four sons, Theuderic, Chlodomer, Childebert and Clotaire.
