Dante
Alighieri Dante (1265-1321) was an Italian poet born probably at Florence. He engaged in city politics and was banished in 1301. from wence he commenced a wandering life. In the Vita Nuova written after the death of Beatrice, Dante celebrated the exalted live of his childhood and youth. In The Commmedia (begun about 1300) he records his journey through hell purgatory and paradise. Dante died in Ravenna
