Eric Bloodaxe (d.954)
King of York (947 - 954).
Son of Harold Fairhair, King of Norway.
Married daughter of Danish King. Eric was forced into exile (c.935) after trying to secure father's kingdom in Norway. He was invited to be King of Northumbria (947) based at Jorvik(York). Here, he minted coins during his brief reign.
Eric led the northern resistance against sourthern English. As a result, Eric was expelled by King Eadred (948). He returned for yet another brief reign (952 - 954). Eric was slain with brother and son at Stainmore.
