The Domesday Book
The Domesday Book
Following his victory over King Harold II at Hastings (1066), William I, The Conqueror, set about subjugating the island of Britain.
To ascertain just how much this new Kingdom could bring him (in monetary value), he set about taking a survey of all landholdings in Britain. A record was made - the Domesday Book.
