The Paston Letters

The Paston Letters are the collection of personnel correspondence, papers and documents amassed by the many members of the Paston family between 1422 and 1509. They give an invaluable insight into family life in late medieval England, as well as some of the events during the Wars of the Roses.

They were found by, a local historian, the Reverend Francis Blomefield upon William Paston, the second Earl of Yarmouth's death and published by Sir John Fenn some years later in 1787. They became an instant best seller and have remained in print ever since. They are an important historical source for many historians but also linguists, thanks to the wealth and quality of the Pastons' everyday language.
