Medieval Glossary
Military Order
Military orders developed from the crusading movement and combined the skills of soldiering with the rigors of monastic life. Examples are the Knights Templar, the Hospitalers, the Teutonic Knights, the Knights of Santiago de Compostela, and the Order of St Lazarus.
